Black History Month Essay Scholarships

All legendary African Americans who made significant achievements, contribution and innovations for the society, are the one in particular who inspires the organizations and companies today to launch a wide variety of scholarship funds for African American students and other minority students. The Black History Month Scholarship not just focuses on African Americans, but also covers the members of other races that are directly or indirectly linked with the history of African Americans and of the USA as a whole.

About Black History Month

February is the month that is celebrated across the globe as Black History Month where black history month scholarships are awarded to African American students by organizations, institutions and companies to pay tribute to famous and legendary African Americans who greatly contributed to the society we are living in today.

It is a week-long tribute that was actually established by renowned Carter G. Woodson dated back in On its 50th anniversary in , it was finally accepted and largely celebrated as a part of country’s history and hence expanded into a month-long event that we recognize today as Black History Month.

The history books we read today have very little information about African Americans and their contribution towards the society, with very few exceptions, like George Washington Carver. Black history month actually plays a very pivotal role in highlighting the significance contribution made by the African Americans throughout the history. It has been over 30 years since the Negro History Week is celebrated as Black History Month.

Why Black History Month Scholarships Are Awarded?

To continue the fight against the inequalities several scholarships are awarded during the Black History Month to encourage the African American students and other minority groups to think, learn; write more extensively about Black History. Some of these scholarships are specifically awarded to minorities, while some are essay scholarships which are open to students of all backgrounds. Black History Month Scholarships are actually local scholarships that are funded by organizations dedicated to promote a greater understanding of diversity in history amongst the students in specific city or state.
